About Peter Sitell
I was born 1956, raised in a classical music environment. The urge to work with art erupted in my 12th year. In my adolescence, two preparatory schools of art, Oskarshamns Folkhögskola and Östra Grevie Folkhögskola, got acquainted with my somewhat, wild ideas. I dropped out, got interested in politics, history and philosophy. In the latter subject, Plato and Leibnitz became my favourites, and still are.
The road into the kingdom of glass went through a five-year painting-project, where my focus was Rembrandt and his technique. The first time glass captured me with its enchanting gleam was 1990. Glass is a fascinating matter, harder than tin, but more fragile than wood. The deep carving challenges you as craftsman, when it comes to shadows and illumination.
After months of preparation, a lot of hard work and help from my friends I finally managed to get my own little workshop working. In the workshop I have my compressor, sandblasting-pot, tables and everything else, including my coffee-brewer!. The idea is that I will try to get the time necessary to do some of my own artprojects. I have bought a 19 mm thick glass 110 cm in diameter (It is round) On this glass I will make a deep carving of a motive that I have had in my desk for 15 years!
It's a drawing of two Galaxies that's "sucked" in to each other. I think I will call the glass "The Kiss".
Since "time is money" I'll try for the first time in my life to apply for financial support from different institutions. I don't have any illusions, since the type of work I do, doesn't fall in to the "flashy" art of today, with installations.
I am interested in meeting other craftsman to discuss and I am open for shorter terms of workexchange. Shorter that is, since I do not wish to leave the position I'm currently holding. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at peter@artglass.nu
